News and Events

Jubilee Weekend

We will be closed over the bank holiday weekend (Thursday 2nd, Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th June). However, we will be involved in the Grove & Wantage Extravaganza on Saturday 4th as we are catering 120 lunch boxes for a children’s tea in the afternoon.

Free Breakfasts during Half Term

As usual we shall be serving free breakfasts to the families of those entitled to free school meals, during the half term break. However, we will only be open for three of those days (Monday—Wednesday) and would encourage those families to join in with the tea party at the Extravaganza. If you would like to support this initiative, we welcome donations.

Our Faithful Queen

Following on from ‘The Servant Queen’, published for the Queen’s 90th Birthday, Hope Together have published ‘Our Faithful Queen’ to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. We will have copies available, free of charge, at the Extravaganza on Saturday 4th June.

St John’s Church Fete –  Saturday25th June

We will be having a stall at St John’s Fete but do need volunteers throughout the day. Please let me know if you are able to help for an hour or so.

Fathers' Day – Sunday 19th June

We have a selection of cards and gift items such as socks, mugs, etc. for fathers. Another idea is a good autobiography, - Bear Grylls’ “Mud Sweat and Tears” is popular, also Leroy Logan’s “My Life as a Cop”.

Teachers' Gifts

We also have a selection of cards and gifts suitable to give to teachers as a thank you at the end of term, as well as cards for passing exams and graduating.

Take Note

book cover for How To Hear God

The current promotion continues throughout June with many books reduced including Pete Greig’s new book “How to Hear God” reduced from £14.99 to £11.99. You can also support our bookshop by visiting where you can buy online from a bigger selection of books and if you choose us as your bookshop, we will take a small amount of commission from each sale.

Monthly hot meal special

roast beef meal

The hot meal special for June will be served on Wednesday 29th June and will be Roast Beef- please do book this in advance so we know how many to cater for.

Do remember that we are a collection point for your foodbank donations. Unfortunately donations have dropped recently, just as more are needed. We know everyone is affected by the increase in living costs but if you are able to donate the odd item it would be very much appreciated.

Board Membership

Following last month’s appeal I’m pleased to say we have someone interested in supporting the board of trustees in the matter of finance, although not as a board member. Each of the supporting churches still has vacancies for board members so do please consider if this something you would be able to take on, and contact us if you are interested.

Prayer Breakfasts

It’s good to see all our regular attendees at our monthly prayer breakfasts but it would be lovely to see more people joining us. The next one will be on Saturday 11th June at 8.30am when we will share coffee (or tea), croissants and prayer.

Community Fridge

The Community Fridge runs here every Thursday from 4-5pm – come and take some surplus food to help stop food wastage. There is always surplus bread and often a selection of vegetables.

Make and Bake for Under 5's

Our Make and Bake sessions are being held on Tuesday mornings from 9.30-11am (in term time). Cost £2 per child includes activities and drink. No need to book, just turn up.
